When you have an LCD TV with a great picture, outstanding video processing and accurate colors, there is usually nothing really else that matters, unless you are one of those guys who crave something new and unique with every model you see. As we have said countless times in the past, Samsung are the leaders for low prices and average to good quality overall. You will find some better adjectives in some areas but do not expect too many. The Samsung LN40D630 40” 1080p 120Hz LCD/LED HDTV price range start from around $680, which is not the cheapest you will find but is still great value for money.
Luckily the 120Hz refresh rate can also be customised to get the best out of 1080p/24 cadence films shown on Blu-ray and DVD. There is no Wi-Fi connection either, which will have some internet fanatics clasping their hair in frustration.
The matte finish on the Samsung LN40D630 allows for great picture quality even in brightly-lit rooms and you do get a dejudder option, 4 HDMI ports, 2 Composite Video inputs, 2 USB ports and 2 Component Video inputs. There is also the possibility of a Samsung LN40D630 firmware update through its Ethernet point.

Once You Get It Right It’s All Downhill

Talking about ideal settings when referring to picture, sound and color may seem easy, but getting there is not all that simple a job. Of course, so many online forums and Samsung experts are also at hand to tell you their settings are best, which can confuse the hell out of you. We like to think that we may help in this department, which is why we thought of giving you the best settings here.
One word of advice re film settings – this is best left on Movie, although blue is a little too prevalent for our likings. However the color management system on the Samsung LN40D630 is easy to follow and allows great depths and accuracy.
There are 4 dejudder setting options for video processing – Standard, Smooth, Clear and Custom. Although quite boring in choice we found the Custom setting to be the best.
With regards to 1080i    video interlacing, the Samsung LN40D630 has to be in Auto 1 film mode to obtain the best picture.
During our color test we only found the Near-Black x/y to be of inferior quality.

Although we are not big fans of Samsung’s remote controls, we have to warn you against deciding to get rid of it or even lose it. The reason for this is, as bad as the remote is, things cannot get any worse when you have to manage the controls form your Samsung LN40D630. The supposedly innovative feature of joystick control will drive your fingers to twitch nervously for hours on end after managing to change channel or increase the volume. Or rather we should say a big IF you manage to do anything of the sort.

Simplicity At It’s Very Best Yet Good Enough to Satisfy Your Taste Buds

There are some things in life you would rather have bit can never seem to afford. Then there are things you can afford but keep putting it off, hoping you’ll win the lottery and can afford the best there is. This would exclude the Samsung LN40D630, as best of the best it certainly isn’t but it will provide you with almost everything you could imagine in a 40” LED/LCD. High quality and the basic essentials are what you’ll get with the Samsung LN40D630, without even having to break a sweat in the savings department.
